Biography: Date of Birth: July 27, 1968 Born: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Residence: Hollywood Hills Married - No. Divorced twice One Child - Madison Father was former Prime Minister of Australia Hair: Brown Eyes: Blue Height: 6'2" - Weight: 182lbs His Acting Advice is: " firstly, never give up. Secondly, the best way to do it is to start classes in any way you can. See what you can find that way. Once you start to get into classes, you'll develop relationships with other actors, and directors, and hopefully it'll evolve from there. And then you'll have to get an agent. My advice to anyone wanting to get into the business is to start with classes; they'll take you a lot further, a lot quicker."
On his own time, McMahon enjoys surfing, biking, and "cooking anything" (especially roasts, pastas and ethnic cuisine). He is a fan of baseball, football and basketball, and he collects classic books.
"And I'm a food freak! I love to cook, and I love to eat too. I make a banana dessert that I couldn't give the recipe for, and an eggplant dish I got from my Mother. But I couldn't give away family recipes! :-)"
"I was in Exchange Lifeguard in Australia, and two films here in America - Magenta which is out, and another coming out next year. I'd love to be in more movies. My goal is to continue working in this business, with as many wonderful people as I can. I like to watch a variety of stuff, from a good action flick, to a romantic comedy, I love it all! Anything I can contribute to, that I'd enjoy doing, would be great. "
"The culture shock is definitely greater the longer you've been here. When you get here it's like you've stepped into a television show or film. Most of our film and TV shows in Australia are American, and we rely on resources from this country in so many ways. Once you actually spend time here you realize it is a different culture. It's a very positive attitude in America. The land of dreams is part of the culture here. Anything is possible. You just have to make it happen. As far as the food is concerned... I'd never had any Mexican food before I came here, and there's a diversity of food that you get here, especially in major cities, that you don't find anywhere else."
Julian McMahon threw himself into learning an American accent years ago and can now slip into it easily when acting. "I use a standard American pronunciation," says McMahon. "The difficulty comes when an actor has to think about his accent, because you can't relax and think about your role as much." McMahon was the second of three children. He studied law at the University of Sydney, but he became bored with his classes after his first year and began a career in modeling, working primarily in commercials. In 1987, he headed off for print modeling assignments in Los Angeles, New York, Milan, Rome, Paris, and other international fashion centers.
His appearance in a TV commercial promoting jeans in his home country made him popular enough to be cast as the lead in an Australian "Dynasty"- like series, in which he played a wealthy heir. After working for 18 months on the series, he starred in "Home and Away," another successful series, where he won a best actor award from a national magazine.
McMahon later performed on stage, appearing in a musical version of "Home and Away" in Britain as well as in "Love Letters" in Sydney and Melbourne. After a lead role in the feature film "Exchange Lifeguards" (which also starred Elliott Gould), he went to Los Angeles to read for American projects. In 1992, he was cast as Ian Rain on NBC's daytime drama "Another World." Two years later, he left to appear in various plays in Los Angeles. He also appeared in the feature films "Women in Control" and "Magenta" before landing his role on "Profiler." He has since won many hearts as the lovable demon Belthezor/Cole joining the witches of "Charmed" in the third season. He also had roles in "In Quiet Night" and "Chasing Sleep."
